Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon

I realize now that I should have made this post weeks ago for International Sailor Moon Day, but better late than never.

One of my earlier forays into trying to design a tarot deck was this Sailor Moon themed one. It was more of an exercise to just see if I could do it. I never made the whole deck, just the aces and my favorite card-- the Wheel of Fortune. I was going to do more but the interest wasn't there (on my end or anyone else's).

Regardless, I made them into charms and some people like those. This year I was asked to donate some to Sailor Moon day in Houston for their raffle and gladly agreed.

We used to have a Sailor Moon day event here in Austin. A couple of years ago I went and won the casual cosplay contest for my Minako outfit. I never win things, so that's a really nice memory for me.

I think it's important to acknowledge where your inspiration comes from. To deny it is to deny a part of yourself. Sailor Moon is a big part of who I am and it's obvious that it had a profound effect on a large percentage of our generation. It sparked our collective interest in manga, anime, magical girls, and more to the point of this blog--astrology. Naoko Takeuchi thrilled our minds and eyes with sparkly, pastel colored wonder ingrained with astrological symbolism. Each character is a fairly accurate personification of their respective planet. Every kid who watched or read it wanted to be able to tap into the power of their own guardian planet. Not only that, but it also ignited our imagination about the potential power of crystals. It's no surprise that things like astrology and mysticism are so en vogue as we near our 30's.
