Chakra Check-in Spread

Chakra Check-in Spread

Use this spread to check-in with your energetic gears. What is your energy trying to tell you? What can you do to achieve balance and live a happier life?

Before attempting this spread make sure you understand the basics of the energy of the chakras as outlined in my previous post. You will need that knowledge to properly translate the reading. This is a great one, but requires a lot of energy and awareness if you’re going to get anything out of it.

Chakra Check-in

Type: Self-Reflection

Level: Advanced

Shuffling: Generally I don’t give instructions on this because everyone does it differently, but for this one I suggest sitting in sukhasana (or easy pose—seated on the floor legs crisscrossed, sitting up tall with your spine aligned) while you shuffle with your eyes closed. Visualize the energetic gears moving up and down your spine and meditate on the affirmations associated with each one.

You may also choose to use chakra stones to help guide your intuition. I place them above where each card will lay, but it’s up to you where you want to put them.

Next, place cards 1-7 face up from bottom to top and either think or speak the affirmations that relate to each chakra as you do so.

  1. Root: I am.

  2. Sacral: I feel.

  3. Solar Plexus: I do.

  4. Heart: I love.

  5. Throat: I speak.

  6. Third eye: I see.

  7. Crown: I know.

Look at each card. If a card is reversed place a face down card to its left. If a card is upright place a face down card to its right. (Note: card 7 cannot be upright so even if you lay it that way, reverse it.)

Now read the cards one by one starting at 1. After your initial analysis of each card do the following: If the card is reversed flip the face down card next to it and decipher what you can do to energize that chakra. If the card is upright decide if it is balanced or over-active. If it is balanced leave the card next to it face down and move on, if it is over-active flip that card and decipher what you can do to balance that chakra.

My Reading

1: Root: VI of Cups Reversed. I am. I found this interesting because this is my ruling card which means I’m pretty much as disconnected from myself as possible right now. I’m not at peace with my past and unable to move forward. This lack of a supportive foundation makes me feel unstable and unfocused. The II of Pentacles reversed suggests that in order to energize this chakra I should stop trying to balance so many different things and reevaluate my priorities. It also reiterates the fact that there is no solid ground beneath my feet. I’m like the ships trying to navigate rough waters.

2. Sacral: VIII of Cups. I feel. I have a strong desire to walk away from something and pursue a fresh start. Because this chakra deals with passion and creativity I believe it’s about my career as an artist. I do agree with that assessment, but I feel like it is slightly overactive. The IX of wands suggests to balance it I should push forward despite the struggle, but be careful not to get burnt out. It may also suggest that I need to overcome feelings that no one is on my side in this journey.

3. Solar Plexus: King of Cups Reversed. I do. My emotional instability is making me feel indecisive and insecure and is keeping me from accomplishing anything. The IV of Pentacles reversed suggests that to energize this chakra I should place less value on the material and more value on myself.

4. Heart: The Magician Reversed. I Love. Negative feelings towards myself and others are holding me back from my true potential. The X of Swords suggests that in order to energize this chakra I need to accept that not everything is in my control and therefore is not my fault. I may be a victim of circumstance.

5. Throat: Knight of Cups. I speak. I am able to clearly and calmly convey my emotions and be a messenger for what I believe in. This chakra is balanced.

6. Third eye: II of Swords. I see. This is another interesting one. My intuitive vision is being represented by a figure who chooses to be blind. There is something I’m not seeing. I know I need to do something, but I can’t see the clear path forward. Because this chakra is overactive there are too many conflicts in my inner voice. The III of Wands suggests that I should balance this chakra by focusing on the reality of the situation and look for all the tangible opportunities before me.

7. Crown: King of Pentacles Reversed. I know. Material instability is keeping me from being happy. The II of cups suggests that I can energize this chakra by focusing on the strong bond and love between me and my partner.
